Weekly teaching format, fall 2026 (weeks 35-48)#
From week 35 to week 48 the teaching weeks follow a fixed rhythm, with two double sessions per week.
Mondays (2 x 45 min): lectures. A more traditional lecture based on the textbook chapters, but broken up by Pause and think questions every few slides: a short question you discuss with your neighbour for a minute before we go through the answer together. The slides for each week (with the questions and answers included) are made available before the lecture, and the reading for the week is always a named set of sections from the book.
Tuesdays (2 x 45 min): flipped classroom. You have heard Monday’s lecture and skimmed the reading; the Tuesday session belongs to your questions and to hands-on work. The format is
the first twenty minutes or so are for open questions from Monday’s lecture, followed by a set of warm-up questions discussed in plenum;
the rest of the double session is case work in pairs or small groups, on concrete cases taken from the lectures, the weekly exercise sets and the projects, using a companion notebook provided for each week. We circulate and help, with short plenary wrap-ups between cases;
the last five minutes summarize what to finish before the weekly exercise deadline and what next Monday’s lecture builds on.
The cases are chosen so that the code written on Tuesdays is directly reusable in the weekly exercises and in the projects. The weekly exercise sets have their deadline on Fridays at midnight.
